Midori is a struggling wedding photographer in Kona, Hawaii. Her small world is thrown off balance when her judgmental sister and brother in-law come to visit from Japan. As the they travel the island together the reason for her sister's visit gradually becomes clear and old grudges and mistrust begin to surface. Midori in Hawaii is a gentle comedy that explores the nature of memory and the lifelong relationship between siblings.

Midori is a coming-of-age drama set amongst the heady high school world of peer rivalry and sexual awakening, featuring an emotionally-detached high-school girl who, her parents dead, lives with her brother and his overprotective wife. After being sent out of class due to a dizzy spell, she becomes acquainted with Shun, a boy in the class below, in the school sanatorium. As the two begin feigning illness together on a regular basis, their uncomfortable flirtations soon blossom into a full sexual relationship.

Executives from a Japanese department store travel to Hawaii to acquire land for expansion but become entangled in romantic distractions and miscommunication. By the time they act, the property is lost to a rival, forcing an abrupt return to Tokyo and uncertain outcomes.
